The UK region of the
International Association for Landscape Ecology
Landscape ecology is a meeting point of different disciplines and perspectives focused on natural and cultural aspects of landscape and seascape.
Our mission is to promote interest, learning and understanding of landscape ecology. We aim to bring together scientists, policy makers, planners and practitioners to enable research, and ensure legislation, policies, incentives and best practice are informed by landscape ecology.
Bunce Lecture 2026: Frans Vera
The wilderness, it is staring us in the face, and yet we do not see it
Online, Thursday 19 November 2026, 3pm GMT
Landscape Ecology UK organises the annual Bunce Lecture in honour of the late Bob Bunce, celebrating influential thinkers whose work has transformed our understanding of landscapes and ecology. Register for free here.
This year, we are delighted to welcome Frans Vera as our keynote speaker. In his lecture, “The wilderness, it is staring us in the face, and yet we do not see it,” Vera will challenge conventional interpretations of Europe's ecological past and explore how language, history, and cultural assumptions have shaped our understanding of wilderness.
The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion featuring:
Henry Dobson, Landscape Manager at Ardtornish Estate
Dr Nikki Yoxall, Technical Director at Pasture for Life & farmer at Rottal Land and Livestock
Professor Stephen Hall, author of Wild Cattle of Chillingham, Natural History of an Ancient Breed
Paul Whitfield, Director General at Wildwood Trust
What is Landscape Ecology?
